-
The MRC Manicouagan comprises eight communities, all bordering the St. Lawrence River and Route 138. From east to west, they include Baie-Trinité, Godbout, Franquelin, Baie-Comeau, Pointe-Lebel, Pointe-aux-Outardes, Chute-aux-Outardes and Ragueneau, home to some 28,000 people. The Innu community of Pessamit shares its territory with the MRC Manicouagan, but is not legally part of it. The name Manicouagan comes from the Innu word Manikuakan, meaning “that which is used for drinking”. The MRC Manicouagan is identified as a resource region, and the exploitation of its natural resources is at the root of its economic development.
